Packaging & Accessories

Marshall’s headphone line has always been packaged in a slim square box, and the new Marshall Motif II A.N.C. has also been consistent in style.

The entire packaging of the headphones adopts Marshall’s common black design, and the front is marked with Marshall’s handwritten logo, headphone product pictures and two main features: ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLING and 30 hours of wireless playback time.

A view of the Marshall Motif II A.N.C. package with a list of headphones’ packaging and technical specifications. As can be seen, the unit size of the headphones is 6mm dynamic coil, and the frequency response dynamic range is 20Hz – 20kHz.

On the back of the package is a product picture of the headset, labeled Marshall Motif II A.N.C. Six key features: Marshall’s signature sound quality, active noise reduction, 30 hours of playback time, future support for LE Audio, 70% manufactured from renewable materials (environmental features), and wireless charging.

The Marshall Motif II A.N.C. Charging cable is a USB-A to Type-C cable. It is worth noting that the positions on both sides of the cable are also set up with non-slip texture, which looks full of characteristics.

Product appearance

Look back at the product. Marshall Motif II A.N.C. charging case at a glance, the overall shape is the common in-ear TWS common rounded square box design, but the surface is wrapped in Marshall’s signature imitation lychee leather material, the front is set Marshall’s logo, the look and feel is full of personality, quite a “retro rock style”.

In the center of the front of the charging case, there is a battery indicator/Bluetooth connection button, marked with a rotating texture, which is very delicate.

After opening the lid of the charging case, you can see that the earphone body is placed in the charging compartment.

When the headphones are removed, they are visible and connected to the headphones via 2 metal contacts on each side of the charging bay.

Marshall Motif II A.N.C. headphones at a glance. In terms of appearance, Marshall Motif II A.N.C. inherits the design style of the previous generation, and the headphones are “handle-type” design, and the three parts of the sound cavity, speaker and headphone handle are clearly distinguished.

The outer compartment of the headphone sound chamber is marked with Marshall’s “M” logo, and the handle is textured, which will show a check effect despite the change of light, which looks full of characteristics.

Connect and pair

Like most wireless headphones, the Marshall Motif II A.N.C. is easy to connect.

When unpacking and connecting for the first time, just open the top cover of the charging case, the earphones will enter the connection pairing mode, at this time, select “Motif II A.N.C.” in the Bluetooth device list of the mobile phone to complete the connection pairing, at this time set the headphones as the output device of the device to listen to music.

Of course, as Marshall’s headphones, Marshall Motif II A.N.C. naturally supports Marshall’s “Marshall Bluetooth” App, which can turn on various hidden “black technologies” of the headphones after connecting to the app.

In the app, you can see the real-time remaining battery status of the headphones, adjust the noise cancellation mode of the headphones, EQ equalizer and other functions, and change the touch control function, interactive sound, in-ear detection and other settings.

In terms of operation, the control area of Marshall Motif II A.N.C. is located at the “M” on the outside of the sound cavity, which supports the recognition of click, double-tap, long press and other gestures. In the app, users can choose between two sets of gestures, “standard” and “simple”, or choose to customize or even completely turn off gesture operation to meet different operation preferences.

Wearing feel

Let’s go to the wearing experience section. Marshall Motif II A.N.C. is a “handle-shaped” TWS headphone with clear and tough lines and a “rock” flavor, but after trying on it by multiple editors, I found that the actual ear feel of the Motif II A.N.C. with a tough appearance is very soft and comfortable.

First of all, the Motif II A.N.C. headphones themselves are very lightweight, and with the rounded design of the inside of the sound chamber, when the earphones are placed in the pinna, it will not bring great pressure and strong foreign body sensation to the ears.

In addition, the design of the Motif II A.N.C. headphone handle is also interesting.

The shank of common shank headphones is often set in the outermost area of the sound cavity, so that the shank of the earphone will hang far outside the ear, resulting in easy falling and pressure on the ear when lying on the side.

However, the Motif II A.N.C. headphone handle is located in the upper part of the sound cavity, so that when wearing the headphones, the earphones will not have a large part of the ear protruding, ensuring the firmness and comfort of the earphones when wearing.

After wearing the Motif II A.N.C., it looks like the picture above from a distance, with a textured round handle designed with a lot of personality.

Listening experience

As a headphone product of the veteran acoustic brand Marshall, one of the characteristics of Marshall Motif II A.N.C. is the “Marshall Signature” sound quality. Therefore, we did an in-depth audition of the headphones.

In the actual experience session, we conducted random track listening tests on the Marshall Motif II A.N.C. and found that the sound quality of the second-generation Motif II A.N.C. was the same as that of its predecessor, with 6mm drivers and a custom tuning system that brought a shocking listening feeling.

Just like its “rock” gene, in terms of tuning, Marshall Motif II A.N.C.’s style is also biased towards pop rock – the presentation of sound by headphones focuses on low-frequency dynamics, low-frequency is solid and powerful, instrumental music is clearly layered, especially the guitar timbre is particularly beautiful and natural, the overall sound stage is wide, and the sense of presence is strong, which can be described as a “pocket stage” can be described as very appropriate.

In addition, through the “Marshall Bluetooth” App, you can also customize the EQ equalizer to personalize the listening experience. The app also presets four EQ modes: bass boost, midrange boost, treble boost, and midrange reduction, which audiophile users can adjust according to their preferences.

Noise reduction experience

As the second generation of Motif, a major upgrade iteration of the new Marshall Motif II A.N.C. is that the active noise cancellation function of the headphones has been further enhanced.

After conducting active noise cancellation tests on Marshall Motif II A.N.C. in different scenarios such as office, outdoor, bus and subway, I found that the active noise cancellation performance of the headphones can be described as quite excellent.

After equipping the earbuds of the right size, the Marshall Motif II A.N.C. headphones themselves already have a certain passive noise reduction ability, at this time, if the active noise cancellation function is turned on, Marshall Motif II A.N.C. can effectively reduce environmental noise, and the overall noise reduction depth reaches the first-line level in the current active noise reduction headphones.

This excellent noise reduction ability greatly increases the practicality of Marshall Motif II A.N.C. For example, in the most common daily commuting scene, the headset can significantly suppress the low-frequency continuous noise in the environment, such as subway sound, car tire noise, etc., and also have a certain suppression effect on medium and high frequency noise such as human voice and keyboard sound, which can create a quieter listening environment.

In addition, Marshall Motif II A.N.C. is also equipped with a “TRA” mode as standard, which allows external sounds to penetrate into the headphones to meet the ambient sound listening needs in specific scenarios, such as face-to-face communication, outdoor sports and other scenes.

Marshall Motif II A.N.C. Data measurement

Weight measurement

Using a high-precision scale, Marshall Motif II A.N.C.’s single-sided headphones weighed 5.2g.

Together with the charging case, the total weight of the earbuds is 56.1g, and with a smaller design, it is very convenient to carry on the go.

Charging and battery life

After using the CHARGERLAB POWER-Z professional tester to charge Marshall Motif II A.N.C. and measured that the wired charging power of the earphone charging case was 1.9W. At the same time, the earphone charging case also supports wireless charging, and the common mainstream wireless charging pad can charge the charging case.

In terms of battery life, the new generation Marshall Motif II A.N.C. has a stronger battery life, and the total battery life has been increased to 30 hours (active noise cancellation) and 43 hours (active noise cancellation off).
